ORDINANCE 98-07-02

AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION OF 8-21 OF THE
GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWN OF KENTLAND

WHEREAS, General Ordinance No.228 as enacted by the Board of Trustees in 1958, and as codified as Section 8-21(c) provides penalties for Section 8-21 of the General Ordinances of the Town of Kentiand in July 1983, regulates the parking on public streets within the Town of Kentland; and

WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to amend Ordinance 8-21( C) to enhance the penalties for violating the limited parking areas to provide a deterrence to those who would disregard the ordinance.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it duly ordained as follows: Section 8-21 subsection (c) of the General Ordinances for the Town Of Kentiand which provides penalties for violation of the section is hereby added and shall read as follows:

(c) Penalties:

(1) Any person parking in excess of the time limited and any of the locations mentioned in section 8-21 shall be fined the sum of $25.00 for each and every violation, and each occurrence shall represent a separate violation.

(2) Any person parking in excess of the time limits in this section may avoid court costs by paying the town Clerk-Treasurer the sum of twenty five dollars ($25.00) within four (4) hours of receiving a citation.

This amendment to Ordinance 8-21(c) shall become effective immediately after publication in the Newton County IEnterprise for a period of two (2) successive weeks.

All of which is duly ordained this 14th day of July, 1998.
